Privacy Policy
Effective October 19, 2026
This policy covers the Three Rail app (the "App") and this website, both provided by Somrack Technology Consulting LLC ("we", "us").
Summary
The App does not ask for your name, email or an account. It sends anonymous play events, which say what was done in the game, to our analytics provider so we can improve the game. You can turn this off in the App. We do not sell any data, and the App does not use advertising or track you across other apps and websites.
Information the App stores
The App saves your layouts, settings and game progress in a file on your device. This file stays on your device and is never sent to us. Deleting the App deletes it. If your device backs up app data (for example with iCloud Backup or Android backup), that backup is handled by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies.
Play data
While "Share play data" is on, the App sends anonymous play events over an encrypted connection to PostHog, Inc., which processes them for us. We use them to see how the game is played and what to improve. The events are:
- each launch, with whether the screen is phone, tablet or computer size, and how many saved layouts there are
- screens opened
- tutorial hints shown, closed or done
- the first track laid, with the number of pieces and the seconds since the App was installed
- layouts started, with whether it came from a template (and which one), was blank or was one of yours, its number of track pieces and plywood sheets, and whether it has a switch or raised track
- the scale miles trains ran, the minutes a train was moving, and the number of train crashes
- items bought, with the item, its kind and its price in game credits
- accessories worked, with which accessory
- freight delivered, with the load, the number of items and the game credits paid
Each event also carries the time it happened, a random ID for the event, a random ID made on your device for this install, a random session ID made each time the App starts and each time the setting changes, the App version, whether it is a test or store build, the operating system and its version, the device model (for example "iPhone15,4"), and whether the device is a phone, tablet or computer.
The App does not send your name, email, contacts, location, advertising ID, a hardware ID of your device, or the name you gave your device. Nothing you type is sent, including layout names.
IP addresses
Our PostHog project is set to discard IP addresses, and the App asks PostHog not to look up a location from the connection.
Where and how long
Play data is stored by PostHog in the United States. We keep it only as long as we need it to improve the game.
Turning it off
"Share play data" is on when the App is installed. To turn it off, open Settings, then Stats, and switch off "Share play data". The App stops sending at once, deletes the events it has not sent yet, and deletes its random ID, so turning it on again starts a new one. Deleting the App also deletes its random ID.
You can also email us at dan@somrack.com to ask for your play data to be deleted. We will delete the play data we can identify as yours.
Network and device access
The App does not need an internet connection to play. It uses the network only to send the play data above, and only while "Share play data" is on. It does not access your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. The game engine the App is built with includes microphone code, which the App never turns on.
Purchases
If the App is sold or offers purchases, payments are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive your payment details.
Contacting us
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply to you. We do not add you to a mailing list or share your email.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or tracking scripts, and loads no third-party resources. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and operation.
Children
The App does not ask for or collect a name, email or other information that identifies a person, from anyone, including children under 13. The anonymous play data described above is the same for every player.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will post the new version on this page with a new effective date.
